Cross Country poem by Rebecca Mikala Logan and Nathaniel

Cross Country
Cross country Cross country
Bang goes the gun
Running running running
We’re off down the hill

Cross country cross country
Up and down the path
Tannah’s on the grass
Watching us run

Cross country cross country
There is my Mum
I’m going through the rugby posts
It’s all done!

By Rebecca Mikala Logan and Nathaniel

Cross Country poem by Ethan Willa Lewis and Morgan

Cross Country
Cross country Cross country
Ready set go!
Running across the field
Some are starting slow

Cross country Cross country
Jogging up the hill
Then down the hill we go
What a big thrill

Cross country Cross country
A few more sprints
Nearly at the finish line
Is that the end I glimpse?

Pole Vault

 Pole Vault
Pole vault is a sport for men and women. You use a stick that looks like a pole. You need to wear shorts, a T-shirt and sensible running shoes. You also have to be strong.  Pole vault is a Commonwealth and Olympic sport.
Athletes use a short run up to leap over a bar without knocking it down. New Zealand  athlete Brent Newdick has competed in the pole vault section of the decathlon at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Until the 1952 Olympics, a bamboo pole was used for the pole vault. They are now made of  fibre or fibreglass.
Pole vault is a very well-known sport and hopefully it will grow more popular.Butterworth pole vault.jpg

Baking with Gran (sunnyhillsprimaryschool.room14@blogger.com)

Baking with Gran

On Saturday in the afternoon Gran and I made oaty biscuits.

Making Dough

First we put flour into a mixing bowl and then we put some oats in. We also put in egg and milk. Gran accidentally put too much oats in so we had to add more milk and flour. We had more dough so we could make a lot of cookies. Gran and I started to roll the mixture into balls.

Baking the Cookies

We put them on to a baking tray. We put on twelve on at a time. Then we pushed a fork on the cookies to flatten them. Next we put them in the oven to bake! We made 6 and a half dozen thats 78 cookies!

Yum Cookies!

I had fun making cookies with Gran they were yummy! I like cookies!

Volcanoes (sunnyhillsprimaryschool.room14@blogger.com)

Volcanoes

Volcanos are dangerous things. There are three different types of volcano, an active volcano, an extinct volcano and a sleeping dormant volcano. Scientist called volcanologists study volcanoes when they erupt.

The earth has a crust the deeper you go the hotter it gets. Magna is red hot rock inside the earth’s crust. When the volcano erupts it lets out this stuff called lava. Volcanoes spread a gas and ash into the air.

People have to wear special gear like a helmet, gas mask, boots, heat proof vest, gloves and a heat proof suit when they work in an active volcano.

There are a lot of volcanoes in Auckland. Mt Wellington is a volcano.

Bannana Explanation (sunnyhillsprimaryschool.room14@blogger.com)

A Banana Explanation

Bananas are a tropical fruit, They are  yellow coloured. When bananas are rotten they give off a special gas called ethylene(C2H4). A banana’s ethylene speeds up ripening of other fruit. Bananas grow on banana trees. People pick them and the bananas get put into a truck and sometimes get shipped and go to other countries. Then they go on a truck again and go in shops. Ripe bananas can be a nuisance because a whole banana that is rotten could spoil the darn lot in the shipment!!!Banana, Fruit, Food, Yellow,

how to be a successful learner at school (sunnyhillsprimaryschool.room14@blogger.com)

How to be a Successful Learner at school

To be a successful learner you have to have neat writing, listen to the teacher and do your homework so you can be better at Reading, Maths and Spelling for when you are older. To be a better writer you need punctuation.

If you want to be a better reader you need to do your homework well and read other books even if you aren't told to read a book. If you want to be a better speller you need to do your homework by practising your spelling words.

To be a successful learner you have to do all of those things and you need to be kind to others. Don't get distracted if they are annoying you and if they don’t stop annoying you just ignore them.

Why Tsunamis Occur (sunnyhillsprimaryschool.room14@blogger.com)

Why Tsunamis Occur

A tsunami is a giant wave which is caused by a disturbance out at sea.

A tsunamis is often caused by an earthquake or other movements in the earth’s crust.

The movements push some water upwards while the other water sinks down.

Tsunamis sometimes cause damage in three or four countries at a time.

Tsunamis are really dangerous. In 2004 The Boxing Day Tsunami killed over 230,000 people in 14 countries. [1]
